Bill Wright -
People's Lives
A Celebration of the Human Spirit
June 8 - 30, 2001
PDNB Gallery is pleased to announce its newest photography exhibition, People's Lives: A Celebration of the Human Spirit. Opening Friday, June 8th, this exhibition features selected images from 25 years of work by Texas photographer Bill Wright.
Wright has traveled around the world with his cameras, visiting places in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Latin America and the United States. While he takes captivating pictures of landscapes and structures, he is especially gifted at portraying people in a sensitive way that shows how they engage in life.
Words like "trust," "respect," and "dignity" recur in the speech of people who view and talk about Wright's pictures. These qualities define his attitude toward people, and their response to him.
A book of photographs documenting his 25 years of travel has been published by the University of Texas Press. People's Lives contains 69 duo-tone images of people old and young, female and male, at work and at play. Their faces express a range of human emotions: joy, love, humor, and the ability to thrive in even the harshest circumstances. Sam Abell of National Geographic Magazine describes Wright"s work as reminiscent of The Family of Man, one of the most influential exhibitions and photography books ever published. In conjunction with the publication of this book, the Texas Council for the Humanities Resource Center has organized this traveling exhibition of 56 photographs.
Bill Wright will appear at PDNB Gallery Friday, June 8th from 6-8 p.m. for an artist reception and book signing.
