MONDO CANE
(A Dog's World)

John Albok: The Aristocrat

The subject of this photography exhibition is DOGS. The show is at Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery. The title is taken from the 1962 Italian ‘shockumentary’ film by Director, Gualtiero Jacopetti, Mondo Cane.

Unlike the film, the exhibition is fun, amusing, charming and entertaining. It will appeal to all animal lovers, especially dog owners. Many families consider their dogs to be part of the family, therefore the value of taking formal dog portraits.

The exhibition will include vernacular photographs from the Victorian era to present. The exhibition will also include photographs by artists regularly exhibited in the gallery: John Albok, Shelby Lee Adams, Keith Carter, William Greiner, Misty Keasler, George Krause, Bill Owens. Local Dallas photographers include: Paul Greenberg, Nancy Moran, Patricia Richards, and many more.

The opening event will be a benefit for Operation Kindness, a Dallas no-kill shelter (the oldest no-kill shelter in Texas). Petropolitan Magazine, a popular local lifestyle magazine for pet owners, is co-sponsoring this event. Another unique twist to this opening is an invitation to dog owners to bring a prized photograph of their canine to be pinned on one of the gallery’s walls. Dogs are also invited to attend; the first 50 dogs will receive treat bags from Paws Around Town.

A charming vintage photograph from the 1930’s by New York artist John Albok will be raffled during the opening event. The proceeds from the raffle will benefit Operation Kindness. John Albok’s daughter, Ilona, donated the photograph.
