Berenice Abbotts signature image of New York at night is one of the highlights of this hot show. This image from 1932 gives an overview of New Yorks bustling energy even at night. Lights are visible in every skyscraper and street evoking the myth of the big city in the 1920s film, Metropolis, or the Gotham City of Batman fame. This photograph is featured in the collections of both the Dallas Museum of Art and the Amon Carter Museum of Art.
Richard Avedons early photograph from Venice, Italy in 1948 is a spontaneous image featuring two male swimmers diving from a boat. This particular work was shown in the 1994 Avedon retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.
Arthur Siegels vintage photograph, Right of Assembly, is a classic. Siegel was one of the first American students at the New Bauhaus School in Chicago. This 1939 photograph shows a massive crowd of people from the UAW demonstrating in the streets.
Many more memorable and entertaining photographs will be exhibited during the last few weeks of summer before our fall season begins.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11am 5pm.
